GetHired, Inc. seeks a Certified Medication Aide (CMA) to assist licensed nurses in elder care, including administering medications, taking vital signs, and supporting daily living activities.

The role requires current Kansas Medication Aide and Nursing Assistant certifications and adherence to facility policies. Position is non-exempt with flexible full-time or part-time hours; candidate must be able to work in a team, maintain accurate records, and comply with safety and infection control

Qualifications

  • Must have a current and valid Kansas Medication Aide Certification.
  • Must have a current and valid Kansas Nursing Assistant Certification.
  • Ability to read and understand Policies and Procedures.
  • Ability to count medications and monitor dosages.
  • Ability to learn electronic medical records and Kardex.
  • Able to stand, walk, and assist with ADLs.

Responsibilities

  • Administer medications to residents with accuracy and proper documentation.
  • Count medications at shift change and maintain cart organization.
  • Re-order medications on a timely basis per protocol.
  • Maintain medication storage areas in excellent condition and compliant with policies.
  • Follow Infection Control procedures and report changes to the charge nurse.
  • Assist elders with bathing, hygiene, meals, transfers, and daily living activities.

Job description

Staring Pay $17.00 per hour and commensurate with experience.

ReportingRelationship: Director of Nursing

Primary Accountabilities

The CertifiedMedication Aide (CMA) assist the licensed nurses in providing safe and ethicalcare for elders with administering prescribed medications in a timely manner,ensuring medications are ordered on time, and medication cart is clean andorganized. Will serve elders in an honorable way byworking with all facility staff in developing a team approach to care for theelders by assisting with ADLs, maintaining a pleasant environment, being afriend, taking vitals, reporting abnormalities to the charge nurse, complyingwith the Elder Justice Act and respecting Resident Rights.

Major Duties
  • Administrationof medications by providing the right resident, right medication, right dose,right time, right route, right documentation, right reason, right response, andproper hand hygiene.
  • Acknowledgementof each medication use, side effect, interactions, warnings, and what tomonitor.
  • Correctlycounting medications at shift change as per facility protocol.
  • Re-orderingmedications in a timely manner as per facility protocol.
  • Properstorage of medications in the medication cart and the medication room.
  • Medicationcart will be clean and organized by not allowing creams, ointments, powders,nasal sprays, eye drops, and inhalers to be stored touching.
  • Medicationequipment is cleaned and disinfected as protocol.
  • Followfacility Infection Control Program.
  • Communicateany changes in condition to the charge nurse immediately.
  • Acknowledgement of eachelder’s care plan from reviewing Kardex daily.
  • Developing routinecares with your elders and co-workers and being flexible with any changes.
  • Preforming elder caresof bathing, hygiene & grooming, oral cares, meals, safe transfers,mobility, toileting, and any other cares described in elder’s Kardex.
  • Provides peri care andcatheter care, handling and placing tubing appropriate to avoid infections.
  • Assures all assignedelders are dressed in clothing that is clean, in good repair, and appropriatefor season and time of day according to elder’s choice and preference. Changingsoiled clothing upon discovery.
  • Assist elders withapplication of hearing aide, clean eyeglasses and any prostheses.
  • Obtains vital signs anddocuments accurately: height & weight, respirations, pulse & pulseoximetry, temperature, blood pressure, reports of pain, and reports of anyabnormality.
Major Duties Continued
  • Completes delegatedtask from the charge nurse
  • Use care plannedassistive devices with elder.
  • Assist elder withcorrect diet and snacks.
  • Wear full uniform dailyof name tag, pager, and walkie.
  • Answering call lightsin a timely manner.
  • Immediately reports anyelder grievances to the charge nurse.
  • Attending all annualrequired education and training provided by the facility.
Required Qualifications
  • Musthave a current and valid Kansas Medication Aide Certification
  • Must have a current andvalid Kansas Nursing Assistant Certification
  • Ability to read andunderstand Policies and Procedures
  • Ability to add,subtract, and understand decimals and fractions in all units of measure
  • Ability to read and understand amedication label
  • Must be familiar with policiesand procedures that pertain to elder care. Must promote the highest quality ofcare by being involved in at least one of the following: QAPI, SafetyCommittee, At Risk Committee, Infection Control committee, any PIPs, andon-going education and training.
  • Safe handling ofequipment by attending all training prior to using equipment and followingsafety guidelines.
  • Ability to listen andcommunicate step by step procedures to elders with maintaining elder dignity.
  • Ability to read andwrite for communication and documentation.
  • Compassionate, mature,sympathetic, and professional at all times.
  • The ability tounderstand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagramform.
  • Ability to learn theelectronic medical records, documentation, and reading the Kardex
  • Ability to operate acomputer at a moderate skill level.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to stand, walk,sit, and bend for extended periods of time throughout the day.
  • Ability to lift 50pounds
  • Ability to read computerscreens, e-mails, and talk on the phone.
  • Work requires fingerdexterity and eye-hand coordination to operate equipment and computer.
  • Possible exposure tochemicals as identified in the MSDS Manual.
  • Continuous exposure toelders who are ill, confused, and need your assistance.

  • Team environment thatincludes all staff, elders, elder’s representatives, and community
