Job Purpose

Responsible for all duties related to safely administering medications and treatments to residents. This position requires legible, accurate documentation on the medication record and in the resident chart. It also requires a responsible demeanor to ensure residents trust your ability to administer medications and treatments. Always act within your scope of practice. If unsure about a decision or occurrence, call for management assistance.

Required Licenses/Certifications

Current, active, and unrestricted Certified Medication Aide Certification; CPR certification.

Preferred Qualifications

High school graduate preferred. Previous experience is a plus but not necessary. Familiarity and willingness to work with elderly populations are desirable.

Key Responsibilities

1. Administer medications and treatments according to schedule and protocol.
2. Document appropriately on communication reports and resident records.
3. Implement interim care plans when necessary and inform care team of changes.
4. Notify supervisors of resident condition changes.
5. Assist with medication records, reordering, and returns.
6. Monitor medications arriving from pharmacy and report discrepancies.
7. Maintain medication room and cart organization and supplies.
8. Demonstrate proper use of assistive devices and equipment.
9. Take accurate vital signs and weights.
10. Complete medication error reports if needed.
11. Fill in as a CNA when required and assist with resident care, including lifting up to 40 pounds.
12. Assist with meal service and cleanup.
13. Communicate with pharmacies regarding medication orders and follow-ups.
14. Respond to call lights promptly or coordinate assistance.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

1. Assist with transportation and appointments.
2. Review communication logs, incident reports, and care plans.
3. Provide medications and treatments as per protocols.
4. Document medication administration accurately.
5. Report issues to supervisors and maintain records.
