Description

JOB PURPOSE:

Responsible for administering medications and treatments to residents safely. Maintains accurate documentation on medication records and resident charts. Demonstrates a responsible demeanor to instill confidence in residents regarding medication administration. Always acts within your scope of practice and seeks management assistance when unsure of any decision or occurrence.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Some High School

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

On-the-job training provided

MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:

Current, active, and unrestricted Certified Medication Aide Certification; CPR certification.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

High school graduate preferred. Previous experience is a plus but not necessary. Familiarity and willingness to work with the elderly population are preferred.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Administer medications and treatments according to schedule and protocol.
2. Document appropriately on communication reports and resident records.
3. Understand and document resident alert statuses and interim care plans.
4. Notify Charge Nurse or Manager of resident condition changes.
5. Assist with medication records, reordering, and returning medications for credit.
6. Monitor incoming medications and notify pharmacy of discrepancies.
7. Maintain organization and cleanliness of medication areas.
8. Assist with equipment and procedures as directed, including taking vital signs and weights.
9. Fill out medication error reports if needed.
10. Provide care assistance, including lifting and mobility support, as needed.
11. Serve meals and assist with post-meal cleanup when required.
12. Order medications via fax and follow up with the pharmacy.
13. Respond to call lights promptly or coordinate with team members.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

Assist residents with transportation and appointments, review communication and incident reports, and respond to issues as needed. Maintain accurate documentation and communicate effectively with team members.
