Job Description

The Medical Assistant in Oncology provides clinical and administrative support within Hematology and Oncology. Responsibilities include patient care, medical procedures, and administrative tasks.

Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
  • Prepare examination rooms and ensure equipment readiness
  • Assist patients with disrobing and draping
  • Record vital signs accurately
  • Document patient history and screening questions
Phlebotomy and Specimen Collection
  • Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture
  • Collect and process specimens (urine, stool, bone marrow)
  • Label and handle specimens properly
Basic Diagnostic Procedures
  • Assist with ECGs, spirometry, and other tests
  • Support bone marrow biopsies and lumbar punctures
Administrative Duties
  • Schedule and coordinate patient appointments
  • Manage patient flow and rescheduling
  • Maintain accurate medical records and update EHR
Insurance Verification
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits
  • Obtain pre-authorizations
  • Coordinate billing with insurance companies
Inventory Management
  • Maintain supplies and equipment
  • Order and sterilize instruments
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years experience as Medical Assistant, oncology experience preferred
  • Medical Office Assistant certification required
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of MediSoft and PowerMed applications
