Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited coding program (4-year or 2-year required).
• One year of inpatient/outpatient coding in an acute care facility.
• CPC, COC, CIC, CCA, CCS, RHIT, or RHIA credential required.

Responsibilities

• Thoroughly reads and interprets documentation to identify all diagnoses and procedures.
• Uses hospital encoder/grouper and coding guidelines to assign MS-DRGs.
• Serves as coding resource for other departments/providers.
• Keeps up-to-date with coding references and guidelines.
