Sun River Health Medical Assistant Job Description

Sun River Health provides comprehensive primary, preventative, and behavioral health services to all, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay, especially targeting underserved and vulnerable populations. We are a Federally Qualified, Non-Profit Health Center serving communities across Suffolk, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, Columbia, and Westchester County. We are currently seeking a Part-Time Medical Assistant for our Southampton location in Long Island, NY.

The Medical Assistant supports patients and the clinical team by assisting with medical care under the direction of nursing and medical staff, adhering to the objectives and policies of the Center. This role involves performing duties in compliance with organizational standards and any additional responsibilities assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Complete the rooming process, take vital signs, vision, and hearing tests, and record patient data in eCW (laboratory results, pain level, PEAS, PHQ, smoke status, etc.). Document the reason for the visit.
  2. Perform in-house laboratories, collect specimens for external labs (e.g., Pap smears, cultures), and perform quality control according to organizational protocols.
  3. Maintain the clinical area by keeping supplies stocked and organized, ensuring all materials are current and disposing of outdated supplies.
  4. Clean and sterilize all equipment, logging each service performed.
  5. Perform basic clerical duties in the service area, answer phones appropriately, communicate issues to nurses, and handle inquiries.
  6. Ensure all relevant logs are maintained accurately.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum Education: High School diploma or GED with Medical Assistant Training Certificate.
  • Preferred Education: Associate's degree with Medical Assistant Training Certificate.
  • Minimum Experience: 0-1 year related work experience.
  • Preferred Skills: Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.

Job Type: Part-Time

Pay Range: $19.00 - $20.50 per hour
