Job summary

UNC Health Pardee BlueMD is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to interview patients, initiate care, collect specimens and deliver test results in a busy clinic setting.

The CMA will take vital signs, document in the EMR, support provider procedures, and help maintain a safe, compliant clinical environment for patients and staff.

Qualifications

• Must hold one of the listed Medical Assistant certifications and current BLS.
• Experience in clinics and EMR documentation preferred.
• Ability to lift supplies and navigate clinical areas.

Responsibilities

• Interviews patients, documents HPI, allergies, and medication reconciliation.
• Measures vitals and conducts standard clinic testing.
• Performs follow-on procedures and specimen collection as directed.
• Assists with provider procedures (sutures, splints).
• Communicates care plans, explains policies, and notifies patients of test results.
• Documents care in EMR and manages specimen transport.
• Maintains supplies and promotes infection control.
• Ensures safe clinical environment.

Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) interviews and initiates care for patients who visit our clinics and plays key roles in the care provided, up to and including specimen collection and delivery of test results.

Responsibilities

• Interviews patients to collect and document history of present illness (HPI), medication reconciliation, history of allergies.
• Performs vital sign measurement and any standard testing per clinic procedures
• Coordinates and performs follow-on procedures as directed by a provider, including but not limited to onsite testing, specimen collection, and wound care.
• Assists with provider-performed procedures such as suture application or splints
• Communicates with patients in a timely and effective manner regarding their care. Notifies patients of test and lab results. Patiently and clearly explains practice policies and procedures using cultural competency and active listening.
• Documents care into electronic medical recordkeeping system (EMR). Ensures completion of necessary documentation and forms.
• Collects and prepares testing specimens as needed for transport to offsite laboratory.
• Maintains and monitors consumable supplies and medications for effective ongoing clinical operations.
• Promotes a safe, clean and secure clinical environment for all, including the application of standard precautions and principles of infection control.

• Must hold a current Medical Assistant certification. Accepted forms of the credential are:
• Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) as issued by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) as issued by American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) as issued by the American Medical Technologists (AMT)
• Medical Assistant (NCMA) as issued by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) as issued by the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
• Must hold current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Position will require the ability to lift supplies and equipment regularly and navigate clinical area actively throughout work.

Preferred

• Prior work experience in a clinical setting.
