Job summary

Pardee UNC Health Care in Tryon, NC is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to interview patients, initiate care, and support clinical workflows in our clinic.

The CMA will perform vital signs, collect specimens, document visits in the EMR, and assist providers with procedures, ensuring accurate test results and patient safety.

This on-site, part-time role requires current CMA certification and BLS; prior clinical experience is preferred. Day shifts, 24 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current Medical Assistant certification (CMA/CCMA/RMA/NCMA/ARMA)
• Must hold current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Responsibilities

• Interviews patients to collect and document history (HPI), medications, and allergies.
• Performs vital sign measurements and standard clinic testing.
• Coordinates follow-on procedures including onsite testing, specimen collection, and wound care.
• Assists with provider-performed procedures such as sutures or splints.
• Communicates care plans clearly and with cultural competency.
• Documents care in the EMR and ensures all forms are completed.
• Collects and prepares specimens for offsite lab transport.
• Maintains supplies and meds for smooth clinical operations.
• Upholds infection control and a safe clinical environment.

Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) interviews and initiates care for patients who visit our clinics and plays key roles in the care provided, up to and including specimen collection and delivery of test results.

Responsibilities

• Interviews patients to collect and document history of present illness (HPI), medication reconciliation, history of allergies.
• Performs vital sign measurement and any standard testing per clinic procedures
• Coordinates and performs follow-on procedures as directed by a provider, including but not limited to onsite testing, specimen collection, and wound care.
• Assists with provider-performed procedures such as suture application or splints
• Communicates with patients in a timely and effective manner regarding their care. Notifies patients of test and lab results. Patiently and clearly explains practice policies and procedures using cultural competency and active listening.
• Documents care into electronic medical recordkeeping system (EMR). Ensures completion of necessary documentation and forms.
• Collects and prepares testing specimens as needed for transport to offsite laboratory.
• Maintains and monitors consumable supplies and medications for effective ongoing clinical operations.
• Promotes a safe, clean and secure clinical environment for all, including the application of standard precautions and principles of infection control.

Required

• Must hold a current Medical Assistant certification. Accepted forms of the credential are:
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) as issued by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) as issued by American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) as issued by the American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • Medical Assistant (NCMA) as issued by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) as issued by the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
• Must hold current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Position will require the ability to lift supplies and equipment regularly and navigate clinical area actively throughout work.

Preferred

• Prior work experience in a clinical setting.
