Job summary

Pardee UNC Health Care is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to interview patients, document histories, and initiate care in our Hematology Oncology clinic. The role includes vital signs, specimen collection, wound care, and assisting with provider procedures in a full‑time onsite setting.

The CMA will document care in the EMR, coordinate follow‑up testing, and maintain supplies while ensuring a safe environment and clear patient communication.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current Medical Assistant certification (CMA/CCMA/RMA/NCMA/ARMA).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Experience assisting in clinical procedures is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interviews patients to collect and document history and allergies.
• Measures vitals and performs standard clinic testing.
• Coordinates follow-on procedures including onsite testing and wound care.
• Assists with provider procedures such as sutures or splints.
• Communicates care details and explains policies to patients.
• Documents care in EMR and ensures forms are complete.
• Collects specimens for transport to offsite lab.
• Maintains supplies and medications for operation continuity.
• Maintains safe, clean clinical environment and infection control.

Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) interviews and initiates care for patients who visit our clinics and plays key roles in the care provided, up to and including specimen collection and delivery of test results.

Responsibilities

• Interviews patients to collect and document history of present illness (HPI), medication reconciliation, history of allergies.
• Performs vital sign measurement and any standard testing per clinic procedures
• Coordinates and performs follow-on procedures as directed by a provider, including but not limited to onsite testing, specimen collection, and wound care.
• Assists with provider-performed procedures such as suture application or splints
• Communicates with patients in a timely and effective manner regarding their care. Notifies patients of test and lab results. Patiently and clearly explains practice policies and procedures using cultural competency and active listening.
• Documents care into electronic medical recordkeeping system (EMR). Ensures completion of necessary documentation and forms.
• Collects and prepares testing specimens as needed for transport to offsite laboratory.
• Maintains and monitors consumable supplies and medications for effective ongoing clinical operations.
• Promotes a safe, clean and secure clinical environment for all, including the application of standard precautions and principles of infection control.

Required

• Must hold a current Medical Assistant certification. Accepted forms of the credential are:
• Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) as issued by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) as issued by American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) as issued by the American Medical Technologists (AMT)
• Medical Assistant (NCMA) as issued by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) as issued by the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
• Must hold current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Position will require the ability to lift supplies and equipment regularly and navigate clinical area actively throughout work.

Preferred

• Prior work experience in a clinical setting.
