Job summary

Duke Health's Perinatal Durham Clinic in Durham, NC is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to be an integral member of the healthcare team, supporting direct and indirect patient care while contributing to clinic operations and patient experience.

You will perform intake with vital signs, document encounters, assist providers during exams, administer medications per orders or protocols, collect and prepare specimens, and participate in performance improvement projects.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program (CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited).
• High school or GED graduation required.
• Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Perform intake with patients, including vital signs and visit information.
• Take telephone messages, document encounters, and inform providers.
• Administer medications/injections per orders or established protocols.
• Assist providers with exams and procedures.
• Set up for clinical procedures and other tasks within scope of practice.
• Perform basic laboratory tests and collect specimens.
• Participate in performance improvement projects.
• Float to cover patient/provider needs as delegated.

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a Medical Assistant, Certified to be an integral member of the healthcare team and provide direct and indirect care to patients at the Duke Perinatal Durham Clinic in Durham, NC. Professional development opportunities include the ability to advance on the CMA clinical ladder and participate in clinic committees.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform intake with patients to include vital signs, visit information, and other clinical information as indicated.
• Perform telephone message taking with patients, document encounter, follow protocols established by clinic leadership, and inform provider.
• Administer medications/injections to patients as ordered by providers or by established protocols following the six rights of medication administration.
• Assists providers with exams and procedures.
• Perform tasks such as setting up for clinical procedures or other miscellaneous appropriate tasks within scope of practice.
• Perform basic laboratory tests on the premises
• Collect and prepare laboratory specimens
• Participates in performance improvement projects.
• Float in clinic to cover patient and provider needs as delegated by nurse manager, health center administrator, charge nurse, or nurse team lead.
• May occasionally be needed to float to the Raleigh or Cary locations or other clinics to support clinical coverage.

JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

• Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred.
  High school or GED graduation required.
  Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required.
• BLS required
• Level I -- No experience required.
• Level II -- 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified in a clinic
