Job summary

Duke Family Medicine Cary is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to join a multidisciplinary team delivering comprehensive care across ages. The CMA supports clinical and administrative tasks to ensure smooth clinic operations and quality patient care.

Responsibilities include patient intake, vital signs, specimen handling, medications per physician orders, and coordination with lab and imaging services. Level I–III ladders apply with relevant certifications and BLS.

Qualifications

• Level I – Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required.
• Level II – Graduation from a CMA program (CAAHEP/ABHES) strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required.
• Level III – Graduation from a CMA program (CAAHEP/ABHES) strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required.
• Level I – Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required. BLS required.
• Level II – Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required. BLS required.
• Level III – Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required. BLS required.

Responsibilities

• Answer telephones
• Greet patients
• Update and file patient medical records
• Fill out insurance forms
• Handle correspondence
• Schedule appointments
• Arrange for hospital admissions
• Arrange for laboratory services
• Handle billing and bookkeeping
• Take medical histories and recording vital signs
• Explaining treatment procedures to patients
• Preparing patients for examinations and procedures
• Assisting the physician during examinations and procedures
• Collect and prepare laboratory specimens
• Perform basic laboratory tests on the premises
• Dispose of contaminated supplies Sterilize medical instruments
• Promote patient/family understanding of the educational content and involvement in the plan of care
• Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician
• Authorize drug refills as directed Telephone prescriptions to a pharmacy
• Draw blood
• Prepare patients for x-rays, tests and procedures
• Take electrocardiograms Remove sutures/ staples
• Change sterile and non-sterile dressings
