Position Overview

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays a vital role in delivering high-quality outpatient/ambulatory patient care. Working under a physician’s direction and lead nurse’s supervision, the CMA supports clinical operations by assisting with exams, procedures, documentation, and ensuring a positive patient experience.

Responsibilities
  • Accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
  • Participates in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and process improvement activities.
  • Maintains effective and professional communication with patients and families.
  • Collaborates with administrative and operations staff.
  • Gathers patient data through interviews and observations.
  • Prepares patients and families for examinations.
  • Assists physicians during exams and procedures.
  • Demonstrates competency in defined tasks and skills.
  • Provides routine treatments and administers approved medications.
  • Documents patient data, treatments, procedures, and education per policies.
  • Acts as a liaison for scheduling and patient coordination for tests and consultations.
  • Handles calls professionally using sound clinical judgment.
Qualifications
Education/Training
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school or at least one year of applicable work experience as a Medical Assistant.
Licensure/Certification
  • Current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification.
  • Current certification or registration from one of the recognized agencies (e.g., CCMA, CMA, CMAC, NCMA, NRCMA, NRCAMA, RMA).
