Job summary

The South Bend Clinic is seeking a team-focused Medical Assistant for the Internal Medicine department at 211 N. Eddy Street, South Bend, IN 46617.

The role supports optimal patient flow, assists with clinical procedures, and ensures thorough documentation and HIPAA-compliant care. Qualifications

• Certified Medical Assistant or non-certified with related expanded experience.
• Proficient computer skills including EMR; highly organized and able to multi-task.
• Able to work with a diverse patient base of all ages.

Responsibilities

• Provides ongoing triage and management of office flow to meet patients' medical and service needs.
• Performs the technical component of the department’s clinical procedures competently.
• Documents all patient care thoroughly, concisely, and within legal guidelines.
• Communicates patient care information thoroughly, concisely, and within legal guidelines.
• Receives patients professionally and rooms them per protocol.
• Maintains logs for equipment (refrigerator temp, autoclave, eyewash, crash cart).
• Verifies insurance coverage for pre-certifications, referrals and/or authorizations in NextGen.
• Assists with general insurance guidelines to direct patient care.
• Responds appropriately to emergencies.
• Cross-trains in other positions as needed.
• Shows proficiency with computer systems to perform job functions.
• Exhibits adherence to The South Bend Clinic service standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned; adheres to HIPAA policies.

Department: Internal Medicine

Location: 211 N. Eddy Street, South Bend, IN 46617

Hours: 40 Hours Weekly: Monday-Friday: 8:00 am-5:00 pm

• Maintains accurate/current logs for equipment, i.e., refrigerator temp, autoclave, eyewash, crash cart, etc.

• Applies knowledge of general insurance guidelines and requirements to help direct patient care.

• Appropriately responds to emergency situations.

• Cross trains in other positions where appropriate as determined by manager.

• Exhibits computer systems knowledge and proficiency as necessary to perform job functions.

• Demonstrates the attitudes and behaviors of The South Bend Clinic Service Standards.

• Performs other duties as assigned when appropriate.

• Adheres to HIPAA guidelines set forth in Clinic policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education/Certification/License :

• Certified Medical Assistant or non-certified with related expanded experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

• Team player, professional, and customer service oriented.

• Proficient computer skills including EMR, highly organized, ability to multi-task and enjoy working in a very fast paced environment.

• Able to work with diverse patient base of all ages.

• Assist with clinical procedures specific to department.

• Perform basic back office skills including medication administration, injections, bandaging, and accurately collect height, weight, and BP.

• In addition, must be able to anticipate the needs of the physician and require minimal supervision.

• Prior experience is a plus.
