Job summary

The South Bend Clinic's Pediatrics department at Eddy Street Campus in South Bend, IN is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to join a fast-paced team. This part-time role involves clinical support, patient triage, and assisting with procedures under supervision.

Qualified candidates are team players with EMR experience (NextGen preferred), excellent communication, and a commitment to HIPAA guidelines and patient care. Previous clinic experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Certified Medical Assistant or related expanded experience.
  • Proficient EMR skills; organized; able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to work with a diverse patient base and assist clinical procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provides ongoing triage and management of office flow to meet patient’s medical and service needs.
  • Performs the technical component of the department’s clinical procedures competently.
  • Documentation of all patient care is thorough, objective, concise, and follows appropriate legal guidelines.
  • Communication of all patient care is thorough, objective, concise, and follows appropriate legal guidelines.
  • Receives patients professionally in waiting area and rooms them per department protocol.
  • Maintains accurate/current logs for equipment (e.g., refrigerator temp, autoclave, eyewash, crash cart).
  • Verifies patient insurance coverage for pre-certification, referrals and/or authorizations in NextGen.
  • Applies knowledge of general insurance guidelines to direct patient care.
  • Responds appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Cross trains in other positions as determined by manager.
  • Exhibits computer systems knowledge and proficiency as necessary.
  • Demonstrates the attitudes and behaviors of The South Bend Clinic Service Standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned when appropriate.
  • Adheres to HIPAA guidelines.

Hours: 12 Hours Weekly. After Hours Availability: Monday-Friday: 5:00 pm-8:00 pm, Saturday: 8:00 am-12:00 pm, Sunday: 8:00 am-1:00 pm

Qualifications

Education/Certification/License :

  • Certified Medical Assistant or non-certified with related expanded experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Team player, professional, and customer service oriented.

  • Proficient computer skills including EMR, highly organized, ability to multi-task and enjoy working in a very fast paced environment.

  • Able to work with diverse patient base of all ages.

  • Assist with clinical procedures specific to department.

  • Perform basic back office skills including medication administration, injections, bandaging, and accurately collect height, weight, and BP.

  • In addition, must be able to anticipate the needs of the physician and require minimal supervision.

  • Prior experience is a plus.
