Job Description

Responsible for providing general direct and indirect patient care in a clinical setting under the direct supervision of a physician. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure smooth practice operations and excellent patient care. Works in clerical, administrative, or clinical capacities and may perform specialized tasks as needed.

Principal Accountabilities:

  1. Handles patient intake, updates medical records, and administers screening tools.
  2. Records medical information and test results, conducts patient interviews, takes vital signs, collects specimens, and administers medication under physician supervision.
  3. Assists with walk-in and scheduled clinic visits, verifies and records clinical data, and ensures adherence to quality standards.
  4. Monitors environment for compliance with accreditation standards and updates practice schedules as needed.
  5. Demonstrates knowledge of the certified medical assistant scope of practice, emphasizing holistic and team-based patient-centered care.
  6. Guides patients through the healthcare system and assists with arriving at appointments on time.
  7. Provides emotional support related to the patient's clinical situation in accordance with the care plan.
  8. Assists with patient referrals to specialists for diagnosis or treatment.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • National Certification from an accredited Medical Assistant program (CCMA from NHA, AAMA, NAHP, ARMA, AMT, AMCA, or NCCT).
  • If certification has expired or is pending, a precertification agreement must be signed, with certification received within 60 days of employment.

Preferred:

  • Associate's degree in Medical Care or related field.
  • One year of healthcare experience.
