This is a full-time position supporting the Family Medicine team at our Gaston office, Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.
Primary Job Responsibilities/Tasks
- Patient care responsibilities include:
- Escort patients to exam/procedure rooms, interview, measure vital signs, collect history, perform screenings, and document all information in patient charts.
- Assist patients with walking transfers, dressing, and specimen collection.
- Perform nursing procedures under supervision.
- Assist in exam rooms and give instructions to patients/families as directed.
- Respond to patient care-related calls, take messages, and provide feedback as instructed.
- Administer medications and injections, assist with minor surgeries, and instruct patients on device use and home care.
- Initiate lab procedures per OSHA guidelines, including CLIA-waived testing, punctures, and specimen handling.
- Perform electrocardiography, schedule appointments and referrals, and handle medication refills and lab reconciliation.
- Clerical responsibilities include:
- Gather and ensure availability of patients' health information and reports.
- Review and ensure completeness of forms and documentation in the EHR.
- Obtain and send medical records, labs, and referral information.
- Schedule appointments and update charts.
- Environmental/logistical responsibilities include:
- Organize patient flow, set up instruments, maintain infection control, and keep supplies stocked.
- Perform sterilization, waste disposal, and record keeping.
Requirements
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited Medical Assisting program.
- Medical Assistant certification preferred.
- Maintain BLS certification.
- Complete Hepatitis B and Flu vaccines, or provide declination or proof of vaccination.
- Complete TB testing.
Experience:
- At least one year of recent medical assistant experience or externship.
- Experience with EKG, vital signs, venipuncture, and EHR systems.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to walk, stand, sit, lift (up to 35 lbs.), and perform physical tasks.
- Concentrate on details and use a computer for extended periods.
