Job summary

Prisma Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to perform patient care and administrative duties under physician supervision at the Patewood Outpt Ctr/Med Offices. Qualifications

• Graduate of a medical assisting education program accredited by CAAHEP, ABHES, or any accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education.
• Completion of a Career and Technical Education Health Sciences Program approved by the SC Department of Education.
• Military Training: medical assisting program provided by a branch of the United States Military.
• Registered Apprenticeship: DoL-approved medical assisting apprenticeship.
• Employer-led training aligned with a nationally accredited certification exam.
• PHCI Fast Track CMA program completion.
• Tennessee-completed education preferred.
• Experience: No experience required.

Responsibilities

• Performs clinical, technical, administrative and clerical duties as directed by the physician.
• Receives, reports and documents critical lab values.
• Prepares patients for examination and treatment; records chief complaints, medications, vitals and allergies.
• Prepares exam/treatment rooms and maintains supplies/equipment.
• Assists physician with examinations, tests, procedures and office-based surgery.
• Administers medications and immunizations as ordered after competency demonstration.
• Handles medically related calls and coordinates with physicians/nurses.
• Educates patients and provides printed information about diagnoses and self-care; documents in medical record.
• Documents data and care in patient records; handles registration, scheduling, billing and pre-authorization as assigned.

Education

Graduate of a medical assisting education program accredited by the CAAHEP, ABHES, or any accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education.

Completion of a Career and Technical Education Health Sciences Program approved by the South Carolina Department of Education.

Military Training: Completion of a medical assisting program provided by a branch of the United States Military.

Registered Apprenticeship: Completion of a medical assisting United States Department of Labor-approved Registered Apprenticeship program.

Employer-Led Training: Completion of a training program delivered by a health care employer that aligns with a nationally accredited certification exam.

Completion of the Prisma Health Certification Institute (PHCI) Fast Track Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) program.

Education: In Tennessee-completion of an accredited medical assistant program preferred.
