Job summary

Prisma Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to perform assigned patient care and related administrative duties under the direct supervision of a licensed physician, APRN or PA. The role includes preparing patients, taking vital signs, recording history, and assisting during examinations and procedures in a busy clinic setting.

Responsibilities include handling phone calls, scheduling, billing tasks, and patient education.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited medical assisting program (CAAHEP/ABHES or equivalent).
• Tennessee completion of an accredited medical assistant program preferred.
• Experience: No experience required.
• Certification: CMA (AAMA) or equivalent certification recommended.
• PHCI CMA program completion recognized by Prisma Health.

Responsibilities

• Performs clinical, technical, administrative and clerical duties as directed by the physician.
• Receives critical lab values and documents notification in medical record.
• Prepares patients for examination and records chief complaints, medications, vitals, allergies; pends orders.
• Prepares exam/treatment rooms; maintains supplies and cleans instruments.
• Assists physician with examinations, tests, procedures and office-based surgery.
• Prepares and administers medications and immunizations as ordered by physician, including injections.
• Receives and returns clinically related phone calls after consultation with physician or RN.
• Educates patient and provides printed information about diagnosis and self-care; documents in medical record.
• Documents data and care in the patient medical record; completes forms for physician review and billing tasks.
• Schedules tests/treatments and pre-authorizations as ordered.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
