Job summary

Texas Health Physicians Group in Sunnyvale, TX is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant Float for Family Care. You will support clinical and front-desk tasks, take vital signs, administer vaccines and medications, and ensure patient safety under the provider's direction.

Requirements include a high school diploma, CMA certification, 1 year MA experience within the last three years and completion of THPG Clinical Training. ACLS or BLS preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1 year Medical Assistant experience within the last 3 years required.
  • Successful completion of THPG Clinical Training (CT) program within 90 days of entry.

Responsibilities

  • Take and record vital signs (BP, temp, pulse, resp, height, weight).
  • Greet patients and prepare them for the provider.
  • Administer meds and vaccines as ordered by providers.
  • May perform phlebotomy and EKGs; collect samples for lab analysis.

Work hours: Full-time, 40 hours weekly, Monday through Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm

Here’s What You Need
Education
  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
Experience
  • 1 year Medical Assistant experience within the last three years. (Required) and
  • Successful completion of THPG Clinical Training (CT) educational program with demonstrated competency in required skills-within 90 days of job entry (Required)
Licenses and Certifications
  • CMA - Certified Medical Assistant (Required) And
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Preferred) Or
  • BLS - Basic life support maintained every 2 years (Required)
What You Will Do

Under the direction of the health care provider, is responsible for the delivery of patient care that promotes the safety and well being of all patients. Accurately performs preliminary physical tests such as: measuring blood pressure, recording weight, temperature, pulse and respiration and other measures as directed by established clinical protocols.

  • Perform general patient care by following established standards and procedures.
  • Greet and prepare patients for the health care provider.
  • Obtain and record vital signs including, but not limited to: blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight, drug allergies, and current medications and presenting problem.
  • Administer ordered medications and/or vaccines via oral, injection, topical, rectal, ophthalmic, and/or inhalant administration.
  • May be required to draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis as well as perform routine tests such as EKG's.
  • Schedule patients for diagnostic testing and follow up to ensure completion of testing.
  • Document patient plan(s) of care, tests and examination results in the medical record as directed by the provider.
  • Communicate with patient regarding test results and plan of care by phone or mail as directed by the provider.
  • Prepare, clean and sterilize instruments and maintain equipment, disposing of contaminated items according to protocol. Keep patient exam rooms stocked, clean and orderly.
  • Escalate non-routine issues, questions and/or concerns to the practice manager or healthcare provider(s).
  • Ensure safety checklists/quality controls are completed as required.
  • Provide for patient safety and protection of patient privacy rights.
  • May work in the front office as needed, as well as perform other duties as assigned by practice manager, more senior staff, or as requested by healthcare provider(s).
