Job summary

Duke Primary Care in Sweetwater, NC seeks a Certified Medical Assistant to join a busy interdisciplinary healthcare team. The CMA performs routine administrative and patient care duties, assisting medical and nursing staff to ensure the clinic runs smoothly.

Responsibilities include taking histories and vital signs, preparing patients for exams, drawing blood, administering medications as directed, and supporting physicians during procedures in a family medicine setting.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program required or strongly preferred.
• Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required; BLS required.
• Level II and Level III require 1+ years of clinical MA experience; 1 year is provided with an Associate degree in Medical Assisting.

Responsibilities

• Answer telephones and greet patients.
• Update and file patient records; schedule appointments; handle billing and bookkeeping.
• Take medical histories and record vital signs; explain procedures to patients.
• Prepare patients for examinations and procedures; assist physician during exams.
• Draw blood and prepare specimens; perform basic lab tests on-site.
• Prepare medications as directed; authorize refills when needed; telephone prescriptions.
• Change dressings and remove sutures; assist with X-rays and other tests.
