Job Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant plays a vital role in our team, working closely with the primary care physician to provide excellent patient care, ensuring services are within the Medical Assisting scope and adhere to state guidelines. Responsibilities include reviewing and updating health records, measuring vital signs, and preparing treatment rooms for examinations.

Essential Functions
  1. Provide excellent customer service by greeting patients and community members respectfully.
  2. Prepare and review patient charts for upcoming visits, verifying all diagnostic tests, hospital reports, and other medical records are accurate and current.
  3. Measure vital signs such as pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height.
  4. Perform clerical duties including checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, and answering phones as needed.
  5. Troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Degree or GED.
  • Active Medical Assisting certification from one of the recognized certifying bodies (e.g., CMA, RMA, CCMA, NRCMA, NCMA, NCCT). If unable to obtain certification, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable (not in South Carolina).
  • BLS Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required at hire for some locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at others.
  • One year of healthcare experience as a medical assistant is preferred but not required.
  • Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office is preferred but not required.
