Certified Medical Assistant – Upstate Cardiology, Easley

Job Summary:

The Certified Medical Assistant is a key team member working closely with the primary care physician to deliver excellent patient care, ensuring services are provided within the Medical Assisting scope and state guidelines. Responsibilities include reviewing and updating health records, measuring vital signs, and preparing treatment rooms for examinations.

Essential Functions:

• Provides excellent customer service by greeting patients and the community respectfully
• Prepares and reviews patient charts for upcoming visits, verifying all diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date
• Measures vital signs such as pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height
• Performs clerical duties like checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, and answering phones as needed
• Must troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly
• Other duties as assigned

Education:

• High School Degree or GED

Licensure/Certification:

Active Medical Assisting certification from one of the following (required):

• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA); American Association of Medical Assisting, Registered Medical Assistant (RMA); American Medical Technologists, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA); National Healthcareer Association (NHA); Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA); National Association for Health Professionals, National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA); National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
• If unable to obtain MA certification, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable (not in South Carolina)

BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for certain locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)

Experience:

• One year of healthcare experience as a medical assistant (preferred, not required)
• Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office (preferred, not required)

Skills & Abilities:

• Problem-solving skills, basic computer skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Engage professionally with staff and patients
