The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to patients based on medical orders and the care plan under the physician's supervision.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
- Current Medical Assistant Certification from a recognized national professional association such as the American Association of Medical Assistants, American Medical Technologists, National Association of Healthcare Professions, American Registry of Medical Assistants, or National Healthcare Association.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Continued Employment:
- Current Medical Assistant Certification from a recognized national professional association such as the American Association of Medical Assistants, American Medical Technologists, National Association of Healthcare Professions, American Registry of Medical Assistants, or National Healthcare Association.
Certifications and Experience:
- AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.
- Experience REQUIRED:
- One year of medical assistant work experience within the last three years if not a graduate of a medical assistant program.
- No work experience required if a graduate of a medical assistant program.
- Experience using a personal computer and software applications, including Microsoft Office and email.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience PREFERRED:
- Two to three years as a Certified Medical Assistant.
- Experience in an academic healthcare environment.
Education/Training:
- REQUIRED: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- PREFERRED: Graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting training program (e.g., CAAHEP or ABHES accredited).
Independent Actions:
- Works under the supervision of a licensed practitioner, manager, or RN, providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving, following hospital and unit policies.
- Requires prior approval or guidance from a supervisor for schedule changes, legal issues, care deviations, and educational needs.
- May handle medications and supplies.
Additional Position Requirements:
- Work shifts include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, with schedules arranged with the Nurse/Practice Manager.
- Schedules may be adjusted as needed.
- Serves all age groups.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Physical: Lifting 20-50 lbs, prolonged standing/sitting, bending, walking, climbing, reaching.
- Mental/Sensory: Recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, clear speech, reading, logical thinking.
- Emotional: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple priorities, adapt to change.
