CAN Community Health Inc. is hiring a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) I in Columbia, SC.

This full-time day-shift role includes Mon-Thu 8:00 am - 6:00 pm and Fri 8:30 am - 12:30 pm, with rotating extended hours bi-monthly and weekend coverage. Pay ranges from $23.27 to $26.76 per hour depending on experience, and you will support front desk and phlebotomy tasks for patients affected by HIV, HCV, STI, and other infections.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
• Certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA) required or achievable within 6 months.
• CPR certification required.
• 1+ years clinical experience preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
• Must have driver's license and vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Performs medical intake procedures including vital signs and history.
• Performs complete patient evaluation and assessment.
• Records symptoms, reactions, treatments and changes in patient’s conditions.
• Performs immunizations as directed by the physician.
• Practice safe phlebotomy skills using standard precautions.
• Greet and assist patients with professionalism and confidentiality.
• Accurately collect, process and post patient payments and insurance data.
• Schedule and confirm patient appointments and follow-ups.

Extended Hours Schedule (bi-monthly rotating schedule): Weekday 10 am - 8:00 pm; Weekend 8:30 am - 12:30 pm

Pay Rate: $23.27 - $26.76 hourly based on experience

What You’ll Do

This position is responsible for the duties of a Medical Assistant, assisting the front desk as well as performing phlebotomy.

Medical Assistant-Primary Tasks

1. Performs medical intake procedures including vital signs and history.
2. Performs complete patient evaluation and assessment.
3. Records and reports on symptoms, reactions, treatments and changes in patient’s conditions.
4. Performs immunizations as directed by the physician.
5. Practice safe phlebotomy skills using standard precautions

Front Desk-Primary Tasks

1. Practice CAN Community Health’s mission, vision, and values
2. Greet and assist patients with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
3. Accurately collect, process and post patient payments, including co-pays, deductibles and outstanding balance.
4. Verify and updated patient insurance information and eligibility during check-in
5. Schedule and confirm patient appointments, managing any necessary follow-up for missing documentation

Phlebotomy Tasks

1. Perform venipuncture and fingerstick on all patients as ordered
2. Identify patients using two unique identifiers and verify test orders prior to specimen collection.
3. Prepare collection sites using aseptic technique and select appropriate collection equipment.
4. Label specimens accurately at the point of collection.
5. Process, centrifuge, and prepare specimens for transport or analysis according to laboratory protocols.

Requirements

Education/Professional Experience:

1. High school diploma or equivalent required
2. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred
3. Certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA) is required or ability to achieve certification within 6 months of hire.

5. 1+ years of experience in a clinical setting preferred
6. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
7. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and have valid insurance and driver’s license.
