Certified Medical Assistant - CMA Family Medicine Windsor Clinic

Overview: The Certified Medical Assistant / Registered Medical Assistant performs routine administrative and patient care support duties in a medical practice to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients, ensuring the smooth operation of the office.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Requirements: H.S. Diploma/GED
  • Certification & Licensure Requirements: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from NHA, NAHP, AMT, AAMA, NCCT, AAH, ARMA, or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from AMT or ARMA, upon hire or equivalent. Successful completion of a RMA/CMA program or equivalent.

Experience Requirements: None specified.

Skills and Knowledge: Ability to learn and retain information, strong customer service skills, compassion, operation of office equipment, proficiency in basic computer skills.

Responsibilities:

  1. Rooming patients: collecting pertinent information regarding the patient's chief complaint, family history, social history, surgical history, and medication reconciliation.
  2. Telephone interactions: completing necessary communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and other healthcare facilities.
  3. Administrative tasks: including patient check-in/out, prior authorizations, scheduling, benefits verification, and referrals/testing coordination.
  4. Perform procedures such as urine catheterizations, bladder scanning, suture or staple removal, application/removal of casts, reading TB skin test results, and other diagnostic testing at the point of care.
  5. Provide patient instructions regarding procedures, medications, or follow-up as directed by the provider.
  6. Retrieve and provide condition-specific education from various sources as directed.
  7. Administer medications per provider orders and assist with prescription refills, including calling medications into pharmacies and documenting actions in EMR.
  8. Maintain department-specific competencies related to point of care testing, equipment handling, and specialty training.
  9. Take patient vitals and complete the rooming process.
  10. Perform POC testing and EMR in-basket work, including medication refills, relaying results, and managing patient portal messages.
  11. Order medications/injections as per provider verbal orders and perform injections.
