Qualifications

  • Abschluss eines akkreditierten medizinischen Assistentenprogramms bevorzugt.

Role Overview

The Certified Medical Assistant functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in providing direct patient care. The Certified Medical Assistant performs routine administrative and patient care supportive duties in a medical practice that assist medical and/or nursing staff in examinations and treatments, ensuring smooth clinic operations.

Work Performed

Responsibilities:

  • Take medical histories and record vital signs, explain treatment procedures, and prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
  • Assist medical and nursing staff during examinations, collect laboratory specimens, perform basic tests, take electrocardiograms, remove sutures/staples, change dressings, promote patient understanding, and document in patient records.
  • Support clinical procedures including disposing of contaminated supplies, instrument sterilization, telephoning prescriptions, administering medications, and authorizing refills.
  • Perform other clinical functions as delegated by physicians.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Greet patients, answer phones, schedule appointments, check out patients, handle referrals, update records, process insurance forms, handle billing, and order supplies.
  • Perform other administrative duties as directed.
  • Serve as a liaison for clinic activities and participate in clinic committees if requested.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions, generally acquired through high school education and medical assistant training.
  • Ability to lift and transport patients as needed.
  • Knowledge of sterile techniques, treatments, sanitation, infection control, and safety procedures.
  • Competencies in age-specific care, documentation, communication, and teamwork.
  • Typing skills and knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • Level I: Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred; Medical assistant license required; High school or GED required.
  • Level II & III: Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program strongly preferred; High school or GED required.
Experience
  • Level I: No experience required.
  • Level II: At least 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Level III: At least 3 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant.

Note: 1 year of experience may be provided for an Associate's degree in Medical Assisting. Additional requirements are outlined in the Medical Assistant Ladder Program.

Certifications

Levels I, II, III require certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA, or ARMA and BLS certification.
