Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers seeks a Medical Assistant to provide clinical support, assist with administrative tasks, and help in an ambulatory setting under the direction of a physician or LIP/RN designee. Duties include patient care, vital signs, lab testing, rooming, data collection, and documentation.

The role requires a High School Diploma, BLS certification, and national MA certification. Ability to lift 20–50 lbs, stand for long periods, and maintain a safe environment.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience: None required.
• Licensure: AHA Health Care Provider BLS certification required. Current MA Certification through a national professional association (AAMA, AMT, NAHP, ARMA, or NHA).

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient care, vital signs, and clinical intake.
• Prepare laboratory specimens and perform point-of-care testing and related tasks.
• Sterilize instruments and maintain clean rooms.
• Document charges and complete forms during patient visits.
• Provide administrative support such as scheduling and message management.
• Maintain supplies and support clinic operations and teamwork.
