Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

(CMA) Under the direction of the physician, Charge RN or Manager performs direct clinical activities in a courteous, caring, and respectful manner. These include patient intake, blood draw, pharmacy calls, EKG, and tests required by the physician. Responsible for accurately documenting in an EMR system in accordance with licensure and VMG policies and procedures. Maintains close working relationships with all practice staff to ensure proper workflow, care, and treatment.

(BA) Performs a variety of essential front desk activities, including greeting, registering, ensuring insurance compliance, and collecting appropriate payment at the time of service. Responsible for maintaining the daily patient schedule and answering all incoming calls related to scheduling appointments, medication refills, or inquiries from clinical or billing departments. Coordinates with clinical staff on special needs or requirements to ensure proper patient flow. Supports the Practice and professional staff as directed by the Practice Manager.

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a formal Medical Assistant program recognized by the State of New Jersey. Certification required. Completion of coursework in office management, database management, or business. Computer literacy required.

EXPERIENCE:

Previous MA experience in a clinic, physician's office, or outpatient setting preferred. Six (6) months of customer service, data entry, administrative, or clerical experience required.

SPECIAL SKILLS:

  • Current and valid certification as a certified medical assistant or registered medical assistant recognized by the Board of Examiners (e.g., AMT, AAMA, NCCT). BCLS certification preferred upon hire and required later.
  • Understanding of medical practice operations preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize and respond to urgent situations.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to foster a high-functioning team and establish cooperative relationships with staff and management.
  • Courteous, caring, respectful, and compassionate behavior at all times.
  • Effective listening and non-judgmental response skills.
  • Ability to represent Valley Health System positively and maintain confidentiality.
  • Commitment to high patient/customer satisfaction levels.

Position may require rotation to other VMG locations as needed.
