Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking Certified Medical Office Assistants (CMOAs) for an ambulatory care setting. As a CMOA, you will take patient vitals, assist with procedures, document medical histories, and help ensure smooth clinic flow.

New hires will complete comprehensive orientation, including ambulatory orientation, EPIC systems training (Prelude, Cadence, Care), insurance verification, and referrals management.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of Medical Assistant training in an approved program, or one year experience in patient care in a physician office or hospital setting.
  • CPR or BLS certification required before first day of employment.
  • Medical Assistant certification and current certified status through CMA/AMT/NHA/other recognized bodies.

Responsibilities

  • Takes, records, and reports patient vital signs and assists with low-complexity procedures (e.g., vision, screening, POC testing, phlebotomy, EKG).
  • Escorts or transports patients to exam rooms and treatment areas as directed.
  • Documents completion of patient care tasks in medical records and reinforces provider education as directed.
  • Prepares exam rooms, facilitates use of diagnostic equipment, and ensures needed patient information is available.
  • Maintains weekly autoclave temperature monitoring and QA, and monthly audit reports as directed.
  • Acts as preceptor for newly-hired medical assistants and externs, aiding their integration into the department.
  • Performs scheduling, pre-certification, phone data collection for triage, and other clerical duties as needed.
  • Inspects equipment and facilities for safety and proper functioning.
  • May serve as clinic safety officer ensuring staff knowledge of fire safety and evacuation plans.
  • Keeps patient consent and authorization forms for research or medical treatment up to date.
  • Maintains current customer service, clinical and technical skills through training and competency reviews.
  • Maintains stock of supplies and may supervise non-licensed staff in clerical tasks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent
Completion of Medical Assistant training in an approved program
One year experience patient care in a physician office practice or hospital setting
CPR certification or BLS certification (AHA/ARC) before first day
MA certification and maintenance of current certified status (CMA/AMT/NHA/others)
