Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is hiring a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join the Barnabas Health Medical Group. The CMA will support providers, prepare patients, and perform clinical tasks within the scope of practice.

The role emphasizes compassionate patient care, accurate documentation, and teamwork in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment. A CMA credential, BLS, and a HS diploma are required, with at least 6 months CMA experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Current CMA credential required and BLS certification.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 6 months CMA experience; EMR/Epic knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for examinations by taking vital signs and histories.
• Assist physicians during examinations and procedures.
• Administer injections, collect specimens, perform point-of-care testing.
• Document patient information and test results in EMR.
• Coordinate patient flow and exam room readiness.
• Educate patients about medications and follow-up care.

A typical day for a Certified Medical Assistant may include:

• Preparing patients for examinations by obtaining vital signs, documenting medical histories, and ensuring they feel comfortable and informed throughout their visit
• Assisting physicians and advanced practice providers during examinations and procedures, anticipating clinical needs to support efficient, high-quality care
• Performing clinical tasks such as administering injections, collecting specimens, conducting point-of-care testing, and completing other duties within scope of practice
• Accurately documenting patient information, test results, and provider instructions within the electronic medical record to support continuity of care
• Coordinating patient flow by preparing exam rooms, maintaining supplies, and helping ensure appointments run efficiently
• Providing clear, compassionate education to patients regarding medications, treatment plans, follow-up appointments, and preventive care
• Scheduling appointments, processing referrals, and collaborating with the care team to support seamless patient experiences
• Contributing to a collaborative team environment where professionalism, communication, and patient-centered care are shared priorities

To be considered for this Certified Medical Assistant opportunity, you are passionate about delivering compassionate patient care while creating a positive experience for every individual you serve.

• This position offers a consistent Monday through Friday schedule, working 40 hours per week from 8:30am to 5:00pm.
• You hold a current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential (AAMA, AECA, AMCA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, NCMA, or NHA), a current American Heart Association BLS certification, and a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• A minimum of 6 months CMA experience is required and electronic medical record (EMR) systems, Epic, knowledge is preferred.
