Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to join the Barnabas Health Medical Group in Somerset Bariatric Center. This full‑time, day‑shift role supports providers, prepares patients, and helps ensure smooth clinic operations in New Jersey.

The CMA will document in the EMR, take vital signs, assist with procedures, coordinate referrals, and educate patients. Requirements include CMA credential, BLS, 6 months CMA experience; Epic EMR knowledge is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must hold CMA credential and BLS certification.
• Minimum CMA experience of 6 months required.
• Experience with EMR systems, Epic preferred.

Responsibilities

• Preparing patients for examinations by obtaining vital signs and histories.
• Assisting physicians during examinations and procedures.
• Administering injections and performing point‑of‑care testing.
• Documenting patient information in the EMR for continuity of care.
• Coordinating patient flow and scheduling referrals.
• Educating patients on medications and follow‑ups.

A typical day for a Certified Medical Assistant may include:

• Preparing patients for examinations by obtaining vital signs, documenting medical histories, and ensuring they feel comfortable and informed throughout their visit
• Assisting physicians and advanced practice providers during examinations and procedures, anticipating clinical needs to support efficient, high-quality care
• Performing clinical tasks such as administering injections, collecting specimens, conducting point-of-care testing, and completing other duties within scope of practice
• Accurately documenting patient information, test results, and provider instructions within the electronic medical record to support continuity of care
• Coordinating patient flow by preparing exam rooms, maintaining supplies, and helping ensure appointments run efficiently
• Providing clear, compassionate education to patients regarding medications, treatment plans, follow-up appointments, and preventive care
• Scheduling appointments, processing referrals, and collaborating with the care team to support seamless patient experiences
• Contributing to a collaborative team environment where professionalism, communication, and patient-centered care are shared priorities

• This position offers a consistent Monday through Friday schedule, working 40 hours per week.
• You hold a current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential (AAMA, AECA, AMCA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, NCMA, or NHA) and a current American Heart Association BLS certification.
• A minimum of 6 months CMA experience is required and electronic medical record (EMR) systems, Epic, knowledge is preferred.
