Job summary

The NATIVE Project is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to join its medical team in Spokane. The MA will support providers with clinical procedures, patient education, charting, and clinic flow while delivering culturally respectful care in a multidisciplinary setting.

Requirements include WA DOH Medical Assisting license, AAMP program completion, BLS/CPR, and at least 3 years of experience in community health or hospital settings. Outstanding communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited AAMP program and proof of WA DOH Medical Assisting license plus BLS/CPR certification.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a community health or hospital setting.
  • Excellent customer service and strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team and multitask effectively.
  • Must pass criminal background, OIG check, and pre-employment UA/BA.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes a compassionate environment and supports patients and families using a holistic approach.
  • Greets patients, escorts to exam rooms, and informs them of delays during visits.
  • Prepares patients for providers and assists with procedures and exams.
  • Performs phlebotomy, lab procedures, injections and immunizations as directed.
  • Keeps exam rooms clean, stocked, and ready for patients; sterilizes instruments.
  • Assists with patient education and answer/route calls and inquiries.
  • Maintains patient records accurately and supports scheduling and prior authorization processes.
  • Performs health screenings as required and supports clinic workflow.

Position Summary

The Medical Assistant (MA) plays an essential role in supporting patient care within a multidisciplinary team environment. The MA assists providers with clinical procedures, patient education, charting, and overall clinic flow—ensuring a welcoming, culturally respectful, and efficient experience for all patients.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families using “Sacred Hospitality.”
  • Greets a variety of patients and escorts them to the exam room; informs patients of time delays throughout the visit.
  • Prepares patients for provider(s); anticipates needs of provider(s) to maintain efficient patient flow.
  • Performs phlebotomy and laboratory procedures as directed by provider(s).
  • Performs and documents injections and immunizations.
  • Ensures exam rooms are clean, stocked, and ready for patients.
  • Cleans, prepares, and sterilizes instruments.
  • Assists the provider with procedures and exams.
  • Assists with patient education.
  • Answering phone calls, directing the calls as required, and handling all queries.
  • Assists with prior authorization.
  • Takes patient vitals and prepares appointments for the medical provider.
  • Maintain patient records containing pertinent, accurate and rules.
  • Perform all Federal/State Prevention Health screening.
Education

Completion of an accredited AAMP program. Must have proof of a Certified Washington State Department of Health license in Medical Assisting. Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) Certification. Requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in a community health or hospital setting.

Other Skills

Excellent customer service, oral and written communication skills required. Compassion for patients is required. Must be able to work well in a team setting. Ability to multitask with the ability to anticipate future needs. Basic computer user skills required. Medical terminology and accurate spelling ability required. CPR/AED certified for a Health Care Provider. Possesses critical working knowledge of current lifestyles and patient outcomes. Must successfully pass a criminal background check, OIG check, and a pre-employment UA/BA.

Physical Demands

Medical Assistants are required to stand, sit, and be mobile one-third to two-thirds of the time. They are required to use their hands and arms. Climbing or balancing occurs less than one-third of the time, while stooping, kneeling, or crouching occurs between one-third and two-thirds of the day. Communicating by talking / hearing occurs over two-thirds of the day. Amount of time spent lifting or exerting force is about 50% for up to 10 pounds and less than one-third of the time up to 25 pounds. Rarely is there a need to lift more than 26 pounds. MAs must be able to travel and manage stress.
