Job summary

New Life Clinic in the United States is seeking a compassionate Medical Assistant to join our addiction medicine team. You will support back-office functions, prepare lab specimens, manage inventory, answer patient inquiries, and keep precise records in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
  • Completion of a formal Medical Assistant program or 4 years of experience in outpatient settings.
  • 2-3 years experience in an outpatient clinic.
  • Ability to navigate an EHR system.
  • Must be able to start daily at 5:30 am.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification required.
  • Knowledge of community resources; experience with insurance verification; outreach favorable.

Responsibilities

  • Report to Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner on patient issues.
  • Collect body fluid samples for admitted patients.
  • Prepare and maintain urinalysis, toxicology swabs, and drug screen scheduling; document results.
  • Administer TB, pregnancy, and breath alcohol tests.
  • Refer and follow up on TB-positive patients for chest X-ray completion.
  • Measure and record vital signs; patient preparation.
  • Prepare lab samples, maintain lab area, organize supply pickup.
  • Perform clerical, receptionist, and communication duties as required.

New Life Clinic is seeking to hire a versatile Medical Assistant who loves taking on a challenge and being part of an aligned, committed team. We are looking for a Medical Assistant who demonstrates patience and compassion since our clinic often sees patients when they are feeling their worst. We are seeking a compassionate professional to join our committed team in addiction medicine. As Medical Assistant, you will prepare lab samples, keep track of medical supplies and inventory, respond to patient inquiries, maintain the lab area, and perform back-office duties. This role is crucial to maintaining accurate records as our program is built on a scientific approach to addiction medicine and this clinic will be highly regulated by credentialing agencies. If you are committed to creating big-picture change, have an eye for details, understand that standard protocols are essential, and like to learn new things, we look forward to speaking with you. While a kind heart is a requirement, an organized mind is also needed for this position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Report directly to Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner on patient medical issues.
  • Collect body fluid samples for patients being admitted to treatment.
  • Prepare and maintain urinalysis, oral toxicology swabs, urine drug screen collection schedules and document results in master file.
  • Administer TB, pregnancy, and breath alcohol tests to appropriate patients.
  • Refer and follow-up on patients with positive TB tests to ensure chest X-ray has been completed.
  • Measure and record vital signs.
  • Patient preparation.
  • Prepare samples for the lab.
  • Perform nasal swabs, urinalysis.
  • Keep track of all medical supplies and inventory.
  • Maintain the lab area.
  • Respond to patient inquiries via phone and email.
  • Organize supply pick-up with medical staff.
  • Sterilize instruments.
  • Perform clerical, receptionist, and communication functions for the clinic as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent to diploma (college degree preferred).
  • Completion of a formal Medical Assistant program or 4 years of experience as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient setting.
  • 2-3 years' experience working within an outpatient medical clinic setting.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, Google Spreadsheets and other electronic computer programs.
  • Ability to maintain records and files.
  • Ability to navigate an EHR system.
  • Ability to work the hours and days required by position, including daily 5:30 am start times.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification required.
  • Knowledge of Community Resources
  • Experience conducting insurance verification.
  • Experience in outreach and inter-agency referral services preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a health care, or clinical environment
  • Experience working with diverse or underserved populations in a medical or clinic setting
  • Knowledge of addiction medicine or MAT program framework
