Job summary

CommonSpirit Health seeks a Medical Assistant II to support the healthcare team and patients, ensuring comprehensive care, accurate charting, and efficient clinic flow. You will perform clinical tasks, educate patients, and participate in professional development while upholding patient care standards.

You will work under providers to manage care plans, monitor health literacy, and promote self-management with motivational interviewing.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• BLS certification through American Heart Association.
• Nationally certified Medical Assistant (CMA/CCMA/RMA or NCCT/AMT/ARMA/NAHP) is required.
• Successful completion of Medical Assistant Core Skills and specialty-specific competencies as defined in the MA Scope of Practice.

Responsibilities

• Assess physical, psychosocial, cultural and spiritual needs and report to the provider to ensure optimal outcomes.
• Perform clinical tasks, vital signs, procedures, and follow-up for patient flow efficiency.
• Contribute to care plans with the interdisciplinary team and identify barriers to participation.
• Provide patient/family education and assess health literacy, readiness, and learning barriers.
• Engage patients in care through motivational interviewing and self-management support.
• Precept and mentor new staff or MA students as needed.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Medical Assistant II, you will assume a crucial supportive role, collaborating with the healthcare team and patients/families to identify and meet their comprehensive needs while promoting optimal health, well-being, and safety.
Every day you will perform a variety of clinical tasks as directed by providers, meticulously maintain accurate chart documentation, participate in professional development, and potentially assist with front office duties, all while contributing to an efficient and patient-focused work environment.

• Assess patient's physical, psychosocial, cultural and spiritual needs through observation, interview, review of medical records & clinical data, and evaluate patient's response and report to responsible provider to ensure optimal patient outcome.
  
• Demonstrate competency in a variety of therapeutic and diagnostic interventions including but not limited to vital signs, mini treatments/procedures, prevention services, previsit planning and postvisit follow up, medication refills per protocol for existing treatment plans and ensures patient flow through the clinic is efficient.
  
• Contributes to the development and implementation of patient plan of care and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team; determine presence/absence of barriers to active participation in the individualized care plan and ability to self-managetheir health conditions, with the purpose of planning patient care and care coordination.
  
• Provide patient/family education through assessment of patient/family, health literacy, barriers to learning readiness, needs, and ability, then provide teaching and evaluate effectiveness of teaching; patient engagement.
  
• Encourage patient engagement in the healthcare partnership through the use of motivational interviewing, evidence-basedself management support protocols, tools, and teach back methodology.
  
• Precepts and mentors new staff or medical assistant students as needed.

Job Requirements

Required

• High School Diploma/G.E.D.
  
• BLS through American Heart Association
  
• Nationally Certified as a Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant by one of the following: AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NAHP, NHA or NCCT
  
• Successful completion of all Medical Assistant Core Skills, as well as additional competencies which are specialty specific, as defined within the Scope of Practice for Medical Assistants
  

Preferred

• Completion of Medical Assisting Program/Trade/Technical School
  
• Completion of EMT Program/Trade/Technical School
