Job summary

Ambulatory Ortho Clinic Operations is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to perform routine administrative and clinical duties supporting staff in patient examinations and treatments. The role requires completion of CMA/CCMA/NCCT certifications and competency in vital signs, chart preparation, and clinical assistance.

Primary responsibilities include patient check-in/out, specimen collection, room preparation, and accurate data entry for demographics and insurance information.

Qualifications

  • Certifications, licenses, or registrations listed in education section are required.
  • CMA/CCMA/CMA (NCCT) credentials from recognized bodies are necessary.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology and medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with direct patient care procedures; checks in patients, obtains histories, takes vital signs, prepares charts, and assists with examinations.
  • Performs venipuncture, catheterization, and sterile dressing changes per protocols; collects and prepares laboratory specimens.
  • Prepares examination rooms, sterilizes instruments, disposes of contaminated supplies, and maintains stock of medications and supplies.
  • Educates and counsels patients on specified medical issues within guidelines.
  • Performs administrative duties: phones, greeting patients, updating/ filing records, verifying demographics and insurance, scheduling, and billing tasks.
  • Adheres to safety, environmental, and infection control procedures.

To perform routine administrative and clinical duties to ensure orderly, efficient office operations and to assist staff with the examination and treatment of patients within university physicians.

Education & Experience

Certifications, Licenses, or Registration required:

  • One of the following nationally recognized Medical Assistant credentials:
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Medical Technologist (AMT)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Association of Medical Personnel (AAMP)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
  • Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) by National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Allied Health (AAH)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and medical terminology. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Interpersonal skills to interact with patients and staff. Verbal and written communication skills. Record management and accounting skills. Ability to collect, record, and maintain data.

  • Performs routine specialized procedures such as venipuncture, catheterization, and sterile dressing changes in accordance with established protocols; collects and prepares laboratory specimens for analysis.
  • Arranges examination room for instruments and equipment; sterilizes medical instruments; dispose of contaminated supplies; and maintains stocks of medications and medical supplies.
  • Educates and advises patients on specified medical issues within established guidelines.
  • Performs administrative duties such as answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and filing medical records, verifying demographic and insurance information, scheduling appointments, and performing billing and bookkeeping tasks.
  • Practices safety, environmental, and infection control methods.
