Job summary

UnityPoint Health’s Cedar Rapids Pediatrics location seeks a Certified Medical Assistant to join the clinic team. The CMA will support patient rooming, exams, and minor procedures under provider supervision, and document in the EMR with standardized workflows.

Responsibilities include collecting histories, vital signs, specimen collection, administering medications, and coordinating referrals, while ensuring HIPAA and CLIA compliance in a busy pediatric setting.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program (certificate, diploma, or associate's).
• Previous clinical experience in a medical office preferred.
• Certified or Registered Medical Assistant through a recognized certifying body.
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association within 30 days of hire.
• IA/IL Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training within 90 days of hire.
• IA/IL Adult Dependent Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist providers and clinical staff with patient rooming, exams, treatments, and minor procedures.
• Obtain patient history and review of systems; measure and document vital signs.
• Document care in EMR using standardized workflows.
• Perform specimen collection, including blood draws, and prepare samples for lab analysis.
• Carry out provider orders within licensure scope, including administering medications and vaccinations.
• Manage results, patient follow-ups, and tracking systems to support ongoing care.
• Schedule referrals and complete required forms, requisitions, and CPT/ICD-10 coding.
• Provide patient and family education as directed by the provider.
• Interpret lab and procedure results within scope and take appropriate next steps.
• Maintain compliance with CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, and organizational policies.
• Participate in team communications and meetings; demonstrate professionalism and strong customer service.

Shift: Full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
