Responsibilities

  • Supports providers during examinations, procedures, and prenatal care.
  • Performs patient intake, including vital signs, medical histories, and assessments.
  • Maintains accurate and confidential EHR.
  • Administers medications, injections, and vaccinations as directed.
  • Conducts phlebotomy, lab specimen collection, and processing.
  • Prepares and maintains clean, well-stocked exam rooms.
  • Educates patients on medications, diet, wellness, and prenatal care.
  • Coordinates appointments, referrals, billing, and insurance verification.
  • Triages patient inquiries and messages, ensuring timely provider communication.
  • Calls in prescriptions and authorizes refills per provider instructions.
  • Upholds HIPAA compliance and ensure a safe, secure clinical environment.
  • Manages medical supply inventory and ordering.
  • Implements the Patient Assistance Program in collaboration with providers and support staff.
  • Provides emotional support and resources for pregnancy-related concerns.
  • Demonstrates exceptional customer service and professional communication.
  • Leads by example in promoting HEAL’s standards of care and service excellence.

Job Classification: Full-Time, Non-exempt

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Reporting Relationship: Supervisor of Clinical Operations

Location: On-site, Atlanta GA

Primary Accountability (Job Purpose):

The Certified Medical Assistant (MA) provides vital clinical support to the medical team, ensuring continuity of care for all HEAL patients. This role is centered on patient-focused service, emphasizing the development of strong relationships, understanding individual needs, and responding promptly to concerns. The MA will also support healthcare providers in delivering high-quality care to expectant mothers, contributing to a positive and compassionate pregnancy experience. Through empathy, effective communication, and proactive problem-solving, the MA enhances the overall patient experience and upholds HEAL’s standards of care.

Essential Functions:

  • Supports providers during examinations, procedures, and prenatal care.
  • Performs patient intake, including vital signs, medical histories, and assessments.

  • Administers medications, injections (IM, SQ, ID), and vaccinations as directed.
  • Conducts phlebotomy, lab specimen collection, and processing.
  • Prepares and maintains clean, well-stocked exam rooms.
  • Educates patients on medications, diet, wellness, and prenatal care.
  • Coordinates appointments, referrals, billing, and insurance verification.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Education: Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
  • Experience : Minimum of one year of experience in a clinical setting preferred.
  • Licensure & Certifications : Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential required.
  • Licensure & Certifications : Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.
  • Compliance with HIPAA regulations and adherence to safety and infection control protocols are essential.
  • Strong customer service orientation with excellent organizational and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Demonstrated commitment to understanding and meeting the needs of patients served by the Healing Community Center.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet quality criteria.

  • Punctual work attendance, adhering to regular schedule unless approved by supervisor.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position (standing or sitting) for extended periods.
  • Frequent movement within the clinical environment to access patients, equipment, and supplies.
  • Ability to operate and use medical instruments, computers, and office equipment.
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of objects up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Frequent reaching, handling, and grasping of small instruments and supplies.
  • Professional and fast-paced clinical setting, requiring frequent interaction with patients, providers, and support staff.
  • Work duties in exam rooms, administrative areas, and occasionally assisting with outreach or community-based health initiatives
