Job summary

Alamo Colleges District in San Antonio, TX seeks a part-time Certified Interpreter to provide American Sign Language interpretation for deaf and hard-of-hearing students and campus partners. The role requires flexibility to cover multiple campuses as needed.

However, Interpreters will need to go to whichever campus / location is needed for deaf student access.

Outside working hours if other than M-F 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.: Varied depending on student schedules.

Job Summary and Description

Provides American SignLanguage (ASL) interpreting services for deaf and hard of hearing students andinternal partners of the Alamo Colleges.

Reports to the Interpreter Services Manager.

Minimum Education and Experience

• A formal training program after high school, such as graduation from an interpreter training program.
• One year of experience performing American Sign Language interpretation as a certified interpreter or an equivalent combination of experience and education in certified interpreting.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree.
• Three years of experience performing AmericanSign Language interpretation as a certified interpreter or an equivalentcombination of experience and education in certified American SignLanguage interpreting.

Licenses and Certifications

• Must possess and maintain Texas Health and Human Services (HHS), Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) Basic Certificate or comparable Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification.
• Comparable certification from other states, pending BEI Certification, is acceptable but BEI certification must be completed within six months of hire. Individuals pursuing BEI certification may apply and must complete BEI certification within six months of hire.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver license and be insurable through the organization's insurers.

Motor Vehicle Report is required in addition to background check and drug screen.
