Requirements of the Certified Home Health Aide

MUST HAVE A VALID NEW JERSEY HOME HEALTH AIDE LICENSE!

Certified Home Health Aides must be detail-oriented and able to carefully follow protocols and rules regarding patient care. They must adhere to instructions from doctors and nurses, such as caring for minor medical issues or reporting changes in the patient’s health. Trustworthiness and dependability are essential so that patients and their families feel comfortable relying on them.

Skills and Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
• At least 1 year of experience as a Caregiver/Certified Home Health Aide in healthcare settings.
• Valid NJ Licensed Certified Home Health Aide certification is required.
• Must be fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19.
• Two-step PPD test.
• Physical exam within the last 12 months.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English as needed for the job.
• Valid driver’s license and insured automobile.

Responsibilities

Certified Home Health Aides assist patients with tasks such as taking vital signs, administering medication under nurse supervision, and helping with daily activities like dressing or bathing. They record and report health data as required. They also help with planning appointments, transportation, and may work in facilities or provide live-in care.

Additional Duties

• Light housekeeping (dusting, mopping, laundry, etc.)
• Meal preparation and cooking
• Grocery shopping
• Reporting patient health status to nurses
• Teaching self-care skills to patients

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary: $17-20/hour based on experience and case.
• Additional pay on weekends.
• Flexible shifts starting at 4 hours or more.
• Full PPE provided.
