Certified Hand Therapist Specialty Preferred

The Physical Therapist Clinician II is responsible for delivering physical therapy care to the assigned patient population and recording that care in the hospital medical record.

The therapist acts as a consultant to various patient populations and provides instruction to OT/PT support staff, PT students, personnel of other disciplines within VCUHS, and patient and/or family members. Therapists may rotate through various clinical service areas.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
  • Licensed (or licensure eligible) by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physical Therapist
Requirements for Continued Employment:
  • Current license by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physical Therapist
  • Current CPR Certification if required by clinic or practice area
Experience REQUIRED:
  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience as a Physical Therapist
Experience PREFERRED:

N/A

Education/training REQUIRED:
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Physical Therapy
Education/training PREFERRED:
  • Masters or Doctoral Degree from an accredited School of Physical Therapy
  • Successful challenge of the VCUHS Physical Therapy Clinical Ladder
Independent actions required:
  • Patient evaluation and implementation of intervention programs, discharge planning
  • Ordering equipment
  • Representing department at rounds and discharge conferences
  • Scheduling and charging patients
Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable):

Employee may supervise Physical Therapist Assistants, Patient Care Technicians, students, and volunteers. They are a senior member of a self-directed team, applying knowledge and experience to daily problem solving. Unresolved issues are escalated to the departmental manager.

Additional position requirements:

Sharing weekend and holiday schedule expectations or flexible work hours from 8 AM to 7 PM based on patient needs.

Physical Requirements:
  • Physical: Lifting 50-100 lbs, frequent bending, walking, climbing, reaching, repetitive motion
  • Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, clear speech, legible writing, reading, logical thinking
  • Emotional: Ability to handle a fast-paced environment, multiple priorities, customer interactions, noise, and frequent changes
