Job summary

Sunland Asphalt & Construction is seeking Certified Flaggers to support our asphalt paving projects in the Kykotsmovi, AZ area. The Flaskger role focuses on directing and slowing traffic, using traffic control devices, and maintaining a safe work zone as part of our team.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, 6 months to 1 year of related experience, and a preference for flagger certification and English literacy.

Responsibilities

• Direct traffic and slow/stop vehicles to ensure safety at the worksite.
• Set up barricades, cones, and related signage for safe flagging zones.
• Coordinate with foreman/crew to maintain safe traffic flow and procedures.
• Conduct field adjustments to keep the project safe for customers and the public.
• Operate vehicles and equipment in compliance with safety guidelines.
• Represent Sunland professionally to customers and the public.
• Travel to and from designated work zones with necessary equipment.
• Maintain safety of jobsites and equipment in accordance with Sunland standards.

Sunland Asphalt & Construction is seeking Certified Flaggers to support our asphalt paving projects in the Kykotsmovi, AZ area. The Certified Flagger plays a critical role in jobsite safety, directing and slowing traffic while properly utilizing traffic control devices, equipment, and strategies throughout the work zone.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Serve as an advocate for safety by following all company safety policies and procedures.
• Work with the Foreman or Crew Leader to ensure the jobsite is safe and traffic is controlled prior to commencing work.
• Set up barricades, cones, and related signage to provide a safe flagging work environment for our partners in the work zone.
• Make field adjustments and corrections to keep the project safe for the customer, municipality, motoring public, and pedestrians.
• Operate vehicles, trailers, machinery, equipment, and tools in compliance with local, state, and federal safety guidelines.
• Coordinate and work with contractors, subcontractors, and vendors to complete the job.
• Serve as a front-line company representative, providing excellent service to the customer and the public.
• Drive to and from designated work zones with all equipment necessary to establish a safe work zone.
• Maintain jobsites and equipment to ensure the highest-quality setups and to uphold The Sunland Way.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
• Six (6) months to one (1) year related experience is preferred.
• Ability to speak read and write English is preferred.
• Flagger certification is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• This position operates at professional construction sites and requires the ability to communicate verbally with others on site, in person, and over the telephone; the ability to read printed materials, signs, and directions; and the stamina to maintain attention despite interruptions.
• Requires the ability to lift, push, pull, carry, handle, or feel objects, supplies, tools, machinery, and/or controls weighing up to 50 pounds; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs and/or ladders; and balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift overhead, and traverse around or otherwise position oneself to safely navigate and perform activities on various construction sites.
• Work is performed outdoors, frequently for long periods of time, in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
• While working, the employee may be exposed to various chemicals, vapors, pollutants, viruses or other airborne pathogens, gases, uneven surfaces, loud noises, moving vehicles or machinery, and dust/debris.
