Job summary

AdventHealth in Florida is seeking a Surgical First Assistant to support surgeons during procedures and ensure patient safety. You will set up the surgical area, position patients, and collaborate with anesthesia to maintain patient temperature and alignment.

Required are anatomy knowledge, ability to assist in procedures, and strong teamwork. Excellent communication and English skills are essential; high school diploma or equivalent is expected.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of anatomy is required.
• Assist the surgeon in surgical procedures.
• Prepares and maintains the surgical area.
• Prepares surgical suites with instruments and supplies as per surgeon preference cards.
• Strong physician/surgeon relationship and team skills.
• Able to read, write and speak conversational English.

Responsibilities

• Positions patients for optimal surgical exposure while ensuring comfort and safety.
• Pads pressure points and guards against nerve damage.
• Collaborates with anesthesia to maintain patient temperature.
• Uses surgical equipment for positions, including tables and stabilizers.
• Evaluates post-procedure for positioning-related damage and reports to surgeon.

Job Description:

• Up to $10K Sign on Bonus (if eligible)
• Up to $10K Relocation Bonus (if eligible)
• Positions patients for optimal surgical exposure while ensuring comfort and safety.
• Pads pressure points and guards against nerve damage to prevent injury.
• Collaborates with anesthesia personnel to maintain the patient's temperature within the desired range.
• Utilizes equipment necessary for common surgical positions, including fracture tables, head and body stabilizers, and C-arm extensions.
• Evaluates patients post-procedure for any positioning-related damage and reports abnormalities to the surgeon.

• Up-to-date knowledge of applicable regulatory, compliance, and accreditation standards and requirements [Required]
• Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with patients and their family, hospital staff, nurses, physicians, and other health care professionals [Required]
• Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English [Required]
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office [Required]
• Proficient in a minimum of 2 surgical specialties [Preferred]

Education:

• Associate [Preferred]
• High School Grad or Equiv [Required]
• Technical/Vocational School [Preferred]

Work Experience:

2+ years of experience as first assistant [Preferred]

Licenses and Certifications:

• Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]
• Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) [Required] OR
• Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) [Required] OR
• ABSA Surgical Assistant (SA) [Required]
