Job summary

AdventHealth in Riverview, FL is seeking a Surgical First Assistant to support the surgeon and ensure patient safety during procedures. You will position patients, protect pressure points, work with anesthesia, and handle equipment like fracture tables and C-arm extensions.

Requirements include BLS, CSFA/CSA/ABSA certifications as possible, and 2+ years of first assistant experience. Strong teamwork and clear English communication are essential for daily collaboration.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of anatomy and surgical procedures required.
• Assist surgeon during procedures and maintain sterile field.
• Prepare surgical area and equipment per surgeon preference cards.
• Communicate effectively with patients, family, and health-care staff.

Responsibilities

• Positions patients for optimal surgical exposure while ensuring comfort and safety.
• Pads pressure points and guards against nerve damage to prevent injury.
• Collaborates with anesthesia personnel to maintain the patient's temperature within the desired range.
• Utilizes equipment necessary for common surgical positions, including fracture tables, head and body stabilizers, and C-arm extensions.
• Evaluates patients post-procedure for positioning-related damage and reports abnormalities.

• Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English [Required]
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office [Required]
• Proficient in a minimum of 2 surgical specialties [Preferred]

Education:

• Associate [Preferred]
• High School Grad or Equiv [Required]
• Technical/Vocational School [Preferred]

Work Experience:

• 2+ years of experience as first assistant [Preferred]

Licenses and Certifications:

• Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]
• Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) [Required] OR
• Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) [Required] OR
• ABSA Surgical Assistant (SA) [Required]
