Job summary

The City of Moss Point is seeking a skilled public safety worker to protect life and property through emergency response to various fires and assist in other emergencies. The role involves operating and maintaining fire apparatus, handling hazardous materials, and performing investigative tasks. Ideal candidates will have certification as Firefighter I-II and be physically fit to handle the demands of emergency services.

Responsibilities include emergency response, training, maintenance of equipment, and maintaining effective public relations. Strong skills in firefighting, emergency medical care, and rescue operations are required.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of State of Mississippi requirements for certification as Firefighter I-II.
• Able to engage in moderate to strenuous physical activity and work long hours.
• Must maintain a valid Mississippi vehicle operator’s license.

Responsibilities

• Perform various duties relating to fire prevention and suppression.
• Respond to emergency calls and provide services as required.
• Operate, inspect, and perform minor repair on fire apparatus and equipment.
• Participate in training to meet current standards for Firefighter.
• Assist in general maintenance of fire facilities and equipment.

Skills

Skilled in operation and care of fire apparatus

Ability to respond to public inquiries

Ability to act quickly in emergencies

Knowledge of occupational hazards

Ability to maintain effective working relationships

Education
