Job summary

The City of Statesboro is seeking a Firefighter I to join our municipal fire department. The role involves responding to fires with suppression techniques, operating firefighting equipment, and performing rescue, salvage, and overhaul operations.

You will inspect structures, vehicles, hoses and hydrants, and assist with fire investigations and reports. You will participate in mandatory physical fitness programs, training, and drills, and may serve as a substitute driver for emergency vehicles as

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• One year of related field experience or equivalent training/education.
• Firefighter I Certification required.
• Valid State of Georgia Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

• Responds to fire and performs suppression activities with firefighting equipment and techniques.
• Responds to investigations of gas leaks, suspicious odors, and fire alarms.
• Inspects burned structures and vehicles.
• Performs rescue, salvage, and overhaul operations.
• Participates in mandatory physical fitness programs and training.
• Inspects apparatus and equipment; performs routine maintenance and keeps them ready for use.
• Assists in training, fire drills, and mock disasters; helps with setup and evacuation.
• Teaches fire prevention and fire safety to local schools and civic groups.
• Acts as substitute driver of emergency vehicles, establishes fire streams, places ladders, and monitors gauges.
• Conducts periodic inspections of hoses and hydrants; assists with gathering information for fire reports.

• Responds to requests of investigation of gas leaks, suspicious odors, and fire alarms;
• Inspects burned structures and vehicles;
• Performs rescue, salvage, and overhaul operations;
• Participants in mandatory physical fitness programs;
• Inspects assigned apparatus and equipment;
• Cleans and performs routine maintenance on same;
• Maintains apparatus in ready condition;
• Participates and assists in training, fire drills, and mock disasters, including set-up and evacuation;
• Teaches fire prevention and fire safety to local schools and civic groups;
• Acts as substitute driver of emergency vehicles which could include establishing a fire stream, placing ladders, and monitoring gauges;
• Conducts periodic inspections of hoses and hydrants;
• Assists with gathering information for fire reports;

• High School Diploma or GED;
• One (1) year of experience in a related field;
• Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience;
• Firefighter I Certification; and
• Valid State of Georgia Driver’s License
