Job summary

The City of Statesboro, GA seeks a dedicated firefighter to perform suppression, rescue, and overhaul operations, with emphasis on nozzle control and ventilation. You will investigate alarms, inspect scenes, and participate in drills while maintaining equipment in ready condition.

Prerequisites include a High School Diploma or GED, a Firefighter I Certification, and a Georgia driver’s license, plus one year of related experience or equivalent training.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Responds to fire and performs fire suppression activities utilizing firefighting equipment and techniques, including nozzle operation, fire stream direction, and building ventilation.
• Responds to requests of investigation of gas leaks, suspicious odors, and fire alarms.
• Inspects burned structures and vehicles.
• Performs rescue, salvage, and overhaul operations.
• Participants in mandatory physical fitness programs.
• Inspects assigned apparatus and equipment.
• Cleans and performs routine maintenance on same.
• Maintains apparatus in ready condition.
• Participates and assists in training, fire drills, and mock disasters, including set-up and evacuation.
• Teaches fire prevention and fire safety to local schools and civic groups.
• Acts as substitute driver of emergency vehicles which could include establishing a fire stream, placing ladders, and monitoring gauges.
• Conducts periodic inspections of hoses and hydrants.
• Assists with gathering information for fire reports.
