Job description

General Purpose

Under the administrative supervision of the Program Director or designee, this position is responsible for providing psychosocial, rehabilitation and recovery-oriented services for adults.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This is an at-will direct service position within a program. The position is responsible for counseling and aiding clients and families requiring assistance dealing with substance abuse problems, such as alcohol or drug abuse. Functions as a Personal Service Coordinator for a case load of dually diagnosed clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Illustrative)

  • Assists clients to identify and progress toward their chosen goals.
  • Advocates for clients in all areas of treatment and helps them apply for and receive services.
  • Provides prompt intervention in the event of a crisis both to stop the crisis and to notify, when indicated, persons and agencies necessary for the resolution of the situation.
  • Interviews clients, reviews records, and confers with other professionals.
  • Formulates program for treatment and rehabilitation of client, including facilitation of support groups.
  • Counsels clients individually and in group sessions to assist client in overcoming alcohol and drug dependency.
  • Counsels family members to assist family in dealing with and providing support for client.
  • Refers client to other support services as needed such as medical evaluation and treatment, social services, and employment services.
  • Monitors condition of client to evaluate success of therapy, and adapts treatment as needed.
  • Prepares and maintains reports and case histories.
  • Formulates and conducts programs to promote prevention of alcohol and drug abuse.
  • Safely transports clients and other passengers to and from appointments and activities and other program business relevant to position using own personal vehicle.
  • Provides support and training for other staff members as needed.
  • Adheres to and upholds the policies and procedures of Turning Point Community Programs.
  • Attends staff meetings unless approval for non-attendance is secured from Team Leader or Program Director.
Minimum Qualifications and Certifications & Licenses

Education, Training and Experience: A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is through the possession of a CADAC license and varied experience working with dually diagnosed adults (substance abuse and psychiatric disability).

  • Valid CADAC license
  • California driver’s license & current vehicle insurance/registration if driving;
  • Reliable means of transportation capable of passing vehicle safety inspection if more than five years old excluding all modes of two-wheeled transport inclusive of bicycles, mopeds and motorcycles.
