Job summary

Kansas Health System is seeking a Certified Diabetes Educator to provide diabetes education, nutrition planning, and self-management guidance in a part-time capacity. The role supports ADA recognition efforts and participates in quality improvement initiatives within the Diabetes program.

You will lead individual teaching, group education sessions, and annual events while coordinating with the Education Coordinator and clinical staff to ensure high-quality patient education.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field from an accredited college or university.
• High school diploma required.
• Minimum 2 years of clinical diabetes and/or nutrition education experience.

Responsibilities

• Be available in clinic most days for one-on-one teaching (insulin pen use, glucometers, pumps).
• Conduct DSME and/or nutrition clinics 4 days per week.
• Coordinate and teach group diabetes education classes and external events.
• Develop and implement an annual Diabetes Day event and CQI projects.
• Support ADA recognition and collaborate with Education Coordinator.
• Assist with scheduling, vendor coordination, and educational materials.
• Perform professional and clinical competencies for the unit.
• Other duties as assigned by department.

Position Summary / Career Interest:

This job is required to work 2 and a half days per week and having 2 clinics per week.

The Diabetes Educator educates patients with diabetes on meal planning and general diabetes self-management education. They participate in the development and implementation of new/current nutrition and education programs. The Diabetes Educator assists in maintaining ADA accreditation and continuous quality improvement projects.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

• Be available in clinic most days of the week for additional one-on-one teaching as needed (e.g., instruction on insulin pen use, glucometers, insulin pump)
• Conduct DSME and/or nutrition clinics 4 days per week
• Coordinate, manage, and teach group diabetes education class
  Coordinate/implement other external events as appropriate
• Create and implement an annual Diabetes Day event Create and implement CQI projects (a requirement of ADA recognition)
• Assist the Education Coordinator with maintaining ADA recognition Help with coordination and teaching of other classes (e.g., Managing Diabetes and Pump Preview)
• Helps maintain ADA recognition and keep up to date Work closely with the administrative staff on scheduling and other matters Work with vendors for samples and updates

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelors Degree in an appropriate field (e.g., Nursing, Dietetics-Nutrition, or a biological science) from an accredited college or university.
• High School Graduate
• 2 or more years of clinical experience in diabetes and/or nutrition education.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Master's Degree in an appropriate field (e.g., Nursing, Dietetics-Nutrition, or a biological science) from an accredited college or university.
• 2 or more years of clinical experience in an ADA or AADE accredited program.

Required Licensure and Certification

• CDE certification (NCBDE) required within 12 months of hire.
• Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Single State - State Board of Nursing in state of practice. OR
• Registered Dietitian (RD) - Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) in state of practice.
• Basic Life Support Heartsaver (BLS HS) (Non-Clinical) - American Heart Association (AHA)
