Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; 1 year related experience.
• CPR certification required and Maryland radiography requirements.
• Thorough knowledge of dental assisting theory, technique, and practice.
• Ability to wear PPE and to follow oral and written instructions; good communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs intra-oral rinsing and aspiration procedures.
• Retracts oral tissues including lips, cheeks, tongue, and flaps.
• Places and removes isolation materials for the dentition as needed.
• Checks for loose bands and ensures patient comfort.
• Provides oral hygiene instructions to patients.
• Performs intra-oral photography and exposes/ processes dental radiographs.
• Takes impressions for mouth guards or diagnostic casts.
• Orders, receives, and maintains inventory of clinical supplies and equipment.
• Cleans and maintains clinic equipment and disposables after procedures.
• May enter data or schedule follow-ups as needed.
• Performs infection control procedures and uses sharps handling precautions.
• Applies topical anesthesia and may use halogen curing lights.
