Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System is seeking a Dental Assistant to assist the Dentist and Hygienist chairside for all procedures, while maintaining strict infection control and radiographic duties as directed by the provider. This role also supports documentation and day-to-day departmental operations.

The position requires Maryland radiology certification eligibility, a Maryland Registered Quality Dental Assistant license, CPR certification, and a high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

• Must be certified or eligible for certification in Dental Radiology by the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners
• Must have a registered Quality Dental Assistant License by the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners
• Current CPR card required
• Completion of high school diploma or GED
• Completion of approved Dental Assistant Program
• Associates degree preferred
• Minimum of 2 years progressive work experience as a Dental Assistant

Under general direction of the Chief of Dentistry and the Dental Practice Coordinator, provides effective chair side assistance, maintenance and administrative duties which help promote efficiency and productivity for the Dentist and Dental Hygienist.

Work Experience

• Must be certified or eligible for certification in Dental Radiology by the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners.
• Must be have a registered Quality Dental Assistant License by the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners
• Current CPR card required.
• Completion of a high school level of course work with attainment of a high school diploma or a State High School Equivalency Certificate (GED) is required.
• Completion of approved Dental Assistant Program.
• Associates of Arts Degree is preferred.
• A minimum of 2 years progressive work experience as a Dental Associate.

Preferred

• active MD Dental Radiation Tech License

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Knowledge of basic principles and practices of dental assisting.
• Effective organizational skills are required for effective clinical operations. Able to perform duties simultaneously and function in stressful situations.
• Ability to read and follow instructions from the Dentist accurately, timely and effectively.
• Highly effective written and verbal communication skills are required to work with all levels of staff and to provide instruction to patients regarding dental care.
• Highly effective verbal communication skills including courtesy, resourcefulness and efficiency in answering questions, giving directions, locating staff and explaining hospital/departmental policies and procedures are necessary. Verbal communication skills may include communicating with an interdisciplinary team, patients, and families. Effective writing skills are also required in order to take messages and maintain miscellaneous records, receipts, reports and logs.
